The white blood cell count may be elevated on a complete blood count test. A CT scan of the abdomen will usually reveal an intra-abdominal abscess. In addition, after a CT scan, a needle may be placed through the skin into the abscess cavity to confirm diagnosis and treat the abscess. Liver function tests, abdominal x-ray, and sonogram may also be helpful in diagnosing abscess. Causes
An intra-abdominal abscess can be caused by a ruptured appendix, ruptured diverticula, a parasite infection in the intestines (Entamoeba histolytica), or other condition.
Risk factors include a history of appendicitis, diverticulitis, perforated ulcer disease, or any surgery that may have infected the abdominal cavity…

Help with bad abdominal pain on right side?
Every so often, maybe every week or two, I get a bad (6 out of 1-10) dull pain on the right side of my abdomen. It will get sharp sometimes and if I press down or sit it hurts more. Sometimes the dull achy pain will also hurt my back or pelvic area.
Tonight its lasted longer then usual.. about 3 hours now and it’s more painful then usual. I just paged my on-call doc to see what I should do but does anyone have any idea what it could be?
Is it lower abdominal righted pain or under the ribs?
I had pain in my right side that would last for hours with my gallbladder attacks. I also had pain in my lower right side when I had my appendix out…but I had an achy side when I had ovarian cysts on my right ovary. It’s really tricky.
If the doctor tells you to go to the hospital, do it, even if it’s just to be on the safe side.

my friend is a male and is 23 years old. he carried this heavy object last week and now has lower back pain for a few days now. but then two days ago his lower right abdominal area started to hurt too and he thinks that they might be connected.
what could it be and if he would go to the hospital, about how much would all the tests cost?
This could be something like muscle strain (an example only) which can also affect abdominal muscles. If he went to the hospital to be evaluated and they ran tests like an MRI (just using this as an example only) it can cost several hundred dollars.
For those that are financially strapped though I would recommend that they check with the city health dept to see if they offer a free clinic that might be able to help evaluate the situation. If not check with a Medical School because they also may have resources to help those financially strapped but need medical care.
